- Motorcycle: – Every person who operates a motorcycle on public roads in Minnesota must have a valid driver’s license with the appropriate instruction permit or license endorsement. Motorcyclists must carry these documents with them when riding on public roadways.
- Commercial Driver – Class A: – A Class A License is required to drive any vehicle towing a unit of more than 10,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating with a gross combination weight rating (truck plus trailer) over 26,000 pounds.
- Commercial Driver – Class B: – A Class B License is required to drive any single-unit vehicle that is over 26,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

Commercial Driver License
Any person doing a transaction with a commercial drivers license needs to bring their current health card.
Those who have a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) are now required to show proof of domicile and proof of residency at time of renewal with one document in each category.
Driver’s license offices across the state will be unable to accept CDL applications without this documentation. This change is in reference to the federal code 383.71. This is a major change for CDL holders and failure to comply may result in loss of commercial driving privileges.
The proof of domicile presence documents include a U.S. birth certificate, U.S passport, Form I-551 MRIV for permanent resident only, certificate of naturalization, Temporary I-551 stamp, certificate of citizenship, report or certificate of birth abroad or an I-551 permanent resident card.
